Emergency Lighting

Emergency lighting keeps escape routes visible when it matters most. Fieldway installs, tests and certifies systems to BS 5266, including remote-monitored options like the MyMesh platform.

Sprinklers & Gas Suppression

From residential sprinkler systems to gas suppression for plant rooms and server spaces, Fieldway designs and installs systems matched to the actual fire risk.

Automatic Opening Vents (AOV)

AOVs clear smoke from escape routes automatically when a fire is detected, working alongside alarms and emergency lighting as one connected system.

Active Fire FAQ’s

How we deliver?

Every active fire project starts with understanding how a building actually operates. Our engineers plan installation and testing around occupied homes, working hospitals and live public buildings, coordinating with residents, staff and facilities teams so daily life carries on. Every system installed or maintained is recorded digitally, giving clients a single, auditable record of what’s been done, when, and by whom, integrated where needed with client asset management systems including JobLogic.

Why choose Fieldway?

Active fire protection detects a fire, alerts people to it, and helps put it out. Fieldway designs, installs, services and certifies the full range of active fire systems, from fire alarms and emergency lighting through to sprinklers and gas suppression, keeping every system tested and ready when it’s needed, not just installed once and forgotten. Our engineers work to BAFE and NICEIC standards, and every job feeds into the golden thread of building safety information the Building Safety Act now requires for higher-risk buildings.

What is active fire protection?

Active fire protection systems detect a fire and respond to it directly, whether that’s raising the alarm, lighting an escape route, or suppressing the fire itself. Fire alarms, emergency lighting, sprinklers and gas suppression systems are all active fire protection.

How often does a fire alarm system need to be serviced?

Fire alarm systems should be serviced at least every six months in line with BS 5839, though the exact schedule depends on the system and the building. Fieldway’s servicing programmes are built around each client’s specific systems and risk profile.

What does “golden thread” compliance mean for active fire systems?

The golden thread is the requirement, introduced by the Building Safety Act 2022, to keep a clear, accurate, up-to-date digital record of a building’s fire safety information. Every active fire system Fieldway installs or services is recorded digitally as part of that record.

Do you maintain systems Fieldway didn’t originally install?

Yes. Fieldway regularly takes on servicing and maintenance of existing active fire systems, whoever installed them, bringing them up to a consistent standard of testing, certification and record-keeping.

What’s the difference between active and passive fire protection?

Active fire protection detects a fire and helps put it out or aid escape, such as alarms, sprinklers and emergency lighting. Passive fire protection contains a fire and stops it spreading, such as fire doors and compartmentation. Most buildings need both, working together.

Can active fire systems be installed in occupied buildings without disruption?

Yes. Fieldway plans every active fire installation around how a building actually operates, coordinating with residents, staff and facilities teams so daily life continues while the work is carried out.
